My first feature guest, on Backstage with Areli, is an amazing woman. She is not only beautiful on the outside, but displays a very happy and positive disposition also, and stands for something that is very prevalent in today’s society .
Welcome to the Blog, Beck Stevens!
Beck wears many hats! She is wife, to NRL Cronulla Sharks legend, Jason Stevens, a Fashion Stylist, a Television Presenter and an avid advocate and ambassador for Australian Ethical Fashion labels.
I found Beck on Instagram, some time ago (@beckjstevens). I enjoyed reading her posts and seeing her #ootd (outfit of the day!) photos. It didn’t take me very long to see, how passionate she is about the Australian Fashion Industry, and supporting local labels, that are manufactured in an ethical manner. Being an Australian made, and ethically made Designer myself, I have a lot of respect for Beck, and couldn’t wait to interview her to find out more!!!
Let’s go Backstage… with Beck Stevens!!
You are an advocate for ethically made, Australian Fashion labels. What inspired you to be so passionate about this area of the industry?
A year or so ago I met the incredible founder of The Helm Society, Nicole Bennett.. She opened my eyes to Ethical Fashion.
She explained the story behind our spending. It's harder than you think to find out what conditions your clothing was made in. If you go and buy a cheap T-shirt, common sense would say someone hasn't been paid much to make it.
In purchasing what we might think is a great bargain, we might be hurting workers along the production line. We might also be encouraging exploitative working conditions in sweatshops, and the trafficking of human beings who have been sold and purchased to work in garment factories and other areas of the cotton industry.
I now work alongside many Australian ethical fashion designers who are making a difference in this industry! I think it's about providing an awareness to consumers, as I think many of us are just unaware of where and how our clothes are made!!
‘Fashion Stylist’ has such a glamorous ring to it! Take us through a day in the life of a Stylist..
Haha well yes, it has a glamorous side obviously, it's like playing dress ups everyday and I adore shopping, what woman doesn't?!!
My day usually starts with emails and calls... I then will take clients on a two hour shopping trip sourcing a new wardrobe or look for them... I also undertake wardrobe consultations whereby I visit the client’s home and clear out any pieces they shouldn't be wearing anymore but also showing how to mix and match what's already in their wardrobe! It's so fulfilling when a client calls or emails saying how confident they feel once they have a new look!! I even have some husbands saying how much they appreciate what I've done as their wives have a new found confidence!! It's so rewarding!!
How would you describe your personal style?
Classic, feminine, understated... And denim... Lots of denim!!
Who or What is your style inspiration?
I always look to Olivia Palmero for fresh new ideas! She has a sophisticated take on the latest trends. Love how she styles the latest statement pieces!!
Your other professional title is a T.V Presenter, for Channel 7’s Sydney Weekender! What do you love about exploring new places and going on adventures?
I love working with my husband Jason, and seeing new places in NSW that we wouldn't normally visit! We live in an incredible place and there is so much to see and do on our doorstep! One of my favourite trips, was down South on the Clyde River! Spectacular sights!! Jason and I filmed a story on "Glamping" - camping glamorously of course! Haha! We had our own butler and there was beautiful wildlife in an absolutely amazing setting. We kayaked down the river which was so much fun!
If my readers are in the Sydney area, what are the Must Do’s?
Well I must say we have an incredible array of restaurants and cafes in Sydney - you can check out our Eating Out suggestions on www.sydneyweekender.com.au
We recently filmed some pieces in the gorgeous Blue Mountains, particularly Leura! Just beautiful up there... I would highly recommend a weekend up there, especially in Spring when all the stunning flowers are in season! So pretty! Also a must do for visitors is to climb our Harbour Bridge! We have done this 3 times, and each time differs depending on what time of the day it is! My favourite was very early in the morning when the sun is just rising!! Spectacular sight!
Finally, Spring racing season is just around the corner! Do you have any tips on what we will expect to see, in the Fashions of the Field?
The pastel trend will be really popular this year at the Spring Racing Carnival. Get ready to see soft pinks, lilacs, mint greens and baby blues.. We will see lots of lace dresses, contemporary headpieces and simple stilettos.
If you haven’t already, you NEED to check Beck out over on Instagram, for some serious style inspo, and to discover new Australian labels to shop! (See tags below).
